The Trippen shops offer extravagant shoe designs made in Berlin as an original alternative to the trainer boom. Trippen produces its shoes in a small factory on the outskirts of Berlin and does not advertise. The shoes, designed by Michael Oehler & Angelika Spieth, are made from naturally tanned leather. The aim of the caps collection is to create a shoe that feels like a sock to the wearer. To achieve this, the body weight gets distributed onto the heel and ball of the foot. The leather is soft and fits snugly around the foot. The Trippen shop in Alte Schoenhaeuser Strasse specialises in caps. Customers can pick their own leather and colour of the sole. The shoes arrive in the post one week later. The Trippen shop at nearby Hackescher Markt specialises in tailor-made wooden shoes. The medieval wood stilettos are being made to measure in the shops’ own workshop. The Trippen name derives from medieval overshoes, which wealthy townsfolk used to wear to protect their silk shoes from the waste that littered the streets.
